An Apple a Day Really Will Keep the Doctor Away

We’ve all heard the phrase that an apple a day keeps the doctor away. Now researchers are realizing just how true that phrase really is. What makes apples a perfect food is the fact that they are packed with nutrients. And as a bonus, it tastes great and is easily portable. Why you need a daily dose of apple:

 

  1. Apples are a slow food — Because they deliver fiber (about 5 grams) and require a lot of chewing, they help you feel fuller faster. The natural sugars in apples also enter your bloodstream gradually, helping keep your blood sugar levels steady.
  2. Apples help you breathe easy — When women consumed more apples during pregnancy, researchers found that their children were less likely to wheeze or develop asthma by age five. It may also protect adult lungs by lowering the risk of asthma and other lung diseases.
  3. Apples help maintain healthy cholesterol levels — Pectin (a type of fiber) and Polyphenols (a type of antioxidant) are found in apples. These two nutrients help prevent the oxidation of LDL (“bad”) cholesterol, the chemical process that turns LDL into artery-clogging plaque. Just make sure to eat the peel — it has more antioxidants than the apple flesh.
  4. Apples make you smarter — The nutrients found in apples promote the production of acetylcholine, a chemical that transmits messages between nerve cells. As you age, those nutrients help enhance memory.

This statement is definetly right, because apples are natural and very healthy. They are helping your immune systems to prevent any kind of flues and cogh. You will get the most vitamans if you are also eating the outside part of the apple. Because in this part there are the most vitamins.

So many people in our society would benefit if they'd stick w/this age old adage and substitute apples & other fresh fruit in place of all the processed junk. I keep a basket on our kitchen table that's always stocked w/apples, oranges, bananas, mango - pretty much whatever is in season. Since doing so my family snacks on a lot more fresh fruits because we've made it convenient. :)
