Some examples of black hat SEO techniques include keyword stuffing, invisible text, doorway pages, and adding unrelated keywords to the page content or page swapping. they are bad because they are essentially cheating, and Google will punish your page for it, often this means ranking you lower, or even banning your page from google results all together.

Black hat SEO:
This is a technique used by website/blog owners to increase their pagerank..but this is often temporary and not preferred as this is compared with a spamming technique.
It just aims in atrracting the crawling methods of google spider.Search engine avoids those sites with use this technique.
Techniques like keyword stuffing(just including the compony/service name in possible places without any definite meaning),unnatural backlinks(creating links by paying money/illegal method)
It only focuses on ranking and not on the end user...hence it is often like a mirage wherein if people access the site they will soon have an idea that the site is spam.

White Hat SEO:
This is a legal way and accepted by search engines to increase a site's page rank. This includes usage of suggested keywords, topics, enriched content which drives traffic in a proper way.

Check Pushon.co.uk for few examples of black and white hat SEO techniques. It is always better that we do not follow the unethical practises.I am using the SEV service from Thewebpole.com which covers the major SEO techniques and helps in obtaining the desired pagerank. They cover many techniques like  keyword and suggested topics, submit the site to over 100 search engines, submission to directories, sitemap creation and also provide reports which will eventually improve the pagerank and website traffic in an ethical way.

Basically it is the practice of hoodwinking the search engines into pushing your website higher in the rankings here are many methods of accomplishing the end result (higher rankings), but it should be understood that you are potentially setting yourself up for the exact opposite (lower rankings and/or removal from the search engine index).you'd see websites with a given keyword or two or three repeated over and over again on a given page (sometimes hundreds of times) in order to make the engine believe that this page was really that important. You'd see blocks of text either at the top of the pages or the very bottom and usually the text would be the same color as the background of the page so that you couldn't read the text unless you highlighted it. What's funnier is that you can still find websites like this today. Funnier yet, some of these websites REMAIN EFFECTIVE in their tactics, no matter how obvious they are.if they can cheat the system and win, good for them. They also know they can just as easily lose the fight. It's not the only form of gambling in this world.

Blackhat SEO is the type of negative SEO that is totally unacceptable by Google because it includes manipulation of content and to hide website's content from Google by making two different sites.
