The desire cherished by all to own a house of one’s own should be fulfilled early in life so that the house will be a place of happiness and fond memories for many many years.  The propensity to save for building a house should be fully exploited by offering attractive fiscal concessions and institutional finances at low rates of interest.  

Young couples should be encouraged to own a house out of their own earnings.  Most parents in modern times do not restrict their grown up sons and daughters from moving into new houses or localities of their choice.  Till a few decades ago, youngsters owned a house that they could call their own only when their parents divided the family properties and gave the property share to each son and daughter in the household.

In modern times, with the advent of the Information Technology (IT) revolution, a great change is being seen.  Many of the fresh graduates now earn phenomenal sums of money as salary every month, which is rather unthinkable to the earlier generation who had to slog it out for a lifetime in the various government departments.  Other than the fixed salary, there was no provision for any other source of income.  Thus to buy a property or a house took many many years of hard work.

In Kerala Houses and apartments are in great demand in the localities adjacent to the IT hotspots of Technopark in Trivandrum and Infopark in Cochin.  Many of the IT professionals have surprised their parents when they handed over the keys of the houses and apartments brought by them through the various employee benefits offered by the company in which they are working.  In most of the cases, additional benefits to these employees came as result of the dedication shown to the job and also as a loyalty bonus.  No government agency can ever afford to hand out such immense benefits to their employees; like that being done by the IT firms.
